I walked the Camino de Santiago Frances in August, then spent 10 days on vacation in Portugal. I made this video to share what I carried in my backpack. You may choose to be more minimalist and let the Camino provide. You'll hear folks saying, "The Camino provides," because it does. You'll see for yourself. Alternatively, you may choose to pack more clothing and comforts and have most of your luggage transported from albergue to albergue or hotel to hotel each day. I was in the middle. Here is a list of some of the products that I recommend: Village to Village Camino Guide book Huppy or Bite toothpaste tablets Humangear travel lotion tubes and travel spoon/fork Kula Cloth antimicrobial toilet paper alternative for girls, a pee funnel. (I noticed that you can buy a pee funnel at Humangear.com and at Kulacloth.com) Smart Wool socks Teva Hurricane Drift Sandal Cocoon travel sheet Meliora laundry powder Karst 4"x6" stone paper journal Topo trail runners (I loved them!) La Tienda de Julia – a beautiful clothing store in Santiago. Treat yourself to a new outfit! What I did not need: There are 2 things I brought and decided on day #3 to mail home. One was a sleeping bag. It was lightweight but didn’t fit inside my back. Consequently, it hung on the outside which weighted my pack in an uncomfortable way. I decided that if I was cold, I could wear my leggings and packable down jacket. I never needed to do that. I walked in August. You may need a sleeping bag depending on your timing. The other thing I mailed home was a fairly heavy, solar battery pack. There were maybe 2 times when it would have been cool to have, but the extra weight was not worth it. The 3rd thing that I brought but did not need was a sleeping mat. I didn’t mail that home, I left it in a “take what you need” bin at a hostel for another hiker who may have wanted it.
