Static & Starlight

Static & Starlight tells the story of our journey across continents, years, dreams, risks, losses, and new beginnings.

The video begins in Mauritius, where we first met and where our story truly began. From tropical coastlines, warm nights, and endless ocean skies, the video follows us as we move through life together — from the intensity and freedom of skydiving and wingsuiting, to quiet moments in apartments in the Netherlands, rainy Amsterdam streets, late-night Star Trek marathons, caravan trips, ferry crossings to England, conventions, road trips, family life, and eventually our arrival in America.

Throughout the entire video, a vintage compass appears repeatedly in different places and different countries. It represents direction, destiny, movement, and the feeling that our lives were never meant to stand still. No matter where we were — Mauritius, the Netherlands, the UK, or somewhere in between — the compass was always spinning, almost urging us onward toward the next chapter of our lives.

Only in the final scenes, after we arrive in America beneath the dark Oregon skies, does the compass finally stop moving and settle. For the first time, the needle becomes completely stable, symbolising the feeling that after years of movement across oceans, countries, and lives, we may finally have arrived at the place we were always searching for.

Rebecca appears throughout the video wearing the same white outfit inspired by her wedding dress, while Jason appears in the outfit inspired by his wedding suit for much of the film. The intention is to make the entire video feel like one continuous emotional memory stretching across time — as though the vows made in Mauritius continued invisibly through every chapter that followed.

There is, however, one important exception.

In a single sequence, Rebecca appears dressed entirely in black while pregnant beneath dark skies. This moment represents the grief, pain, uncertainty, and those we lost along the way. It stands in contrast to the white outfits worn throughout the rest of the film, symbolising that even within a life filled with love, adventure, and movement, loss and sorrow still travel beside us.

Liam Gallagher appears throughout the video as the frontman of the fictional indie rock band performing the song. Although Static & Starlight musically leans toward sweeping American soft-rock and cinematic power-ballad influences, Liam’s presence represents our shared love of Oasis and the lasting impact their music has had on our lives together. Jason grew up listening obsessively to Oasis from a young age, and in more recent years we experienced that music together through concerts, road trips, and major memories woven throughout our relationship.

Liam appears performing in many of the major visual set pieces — on Mauritius cliffs above the ocean, in an Amsterdam apartment, beside aircraft on glowing runways, in convention halls, and beneath Oregon night skies. His presence acts almost like a narrator moving through our memories with us, giving the video the emotional energy, swagger, melancholy, and romantic nostalgia associated with the music that became part of the soundtrack to our lives.

The video intentionally blends reality with dreamlike imagery. Memories appear out of order, locations merge together, and scenes drift between romance, chaos, nostalgia, adrenaline, and stillness. The intention is not to present a perfectly chronological retelling of our lives, but rather the emotional feeling of remembering them.

At its core, Static & Starlight is about two people who kept moving forward together through every risk, every leap, every relocation, every triumph, every heartbreak, and every unknown horizon — until eventually finding themselves standing beneath the stars in Oregon, still together.
