Chiang Mai retirement - is it for you? In this video, I will introduce Chiang Mai and what it's like to retire there. Chiang Mai is in northern Thailand. It's the second largest city after Bangkok, and it draws many expats to retire because of its natural beauty, the Thai Highlands. This is where you can find the wildlife and Thailand's natural beauty, and mix it with the modern world of Chiang Mai in its urban areas. To live and retire in Chiang Mai, here are some aspects to consider: - Cost of living - It's cheaper to live than in Bangkok. - The climate is good compared to a lot of other places - Thailand becomes very hot and humid - The transport links are good, but not on the same level as Bangkok or KL - You are close to the wildlife and Thai highlands - you can visit the tribes to feel really remote - There is a good retirement and nomad community - Air quality can be an issue for 3 months of the year It's one of my favourite places to visit to escape the bustle of Bangkok. I enjoy getting out of the city and delving into the rural depths of Chiang Mai. It is quite popular with tourists, and I have since found Chiang Rai, which is very nice. To be comfortable, I recommend 2-3k a month for living and retirement. You can do it for less, however, you want to cover your medical expenses to make sure you're quality of life is high.
