And trust me, this is NOT your typical national holiday ? Why June 17th? It’s the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson, the absolute legend who stood up to Denmark with his epic “Vér mótmælum allir!” (We all protest!) This guy basically said “nah fam, we’re independent now” and made it happen! Here’s how Iceland does Independence Day RIGHT: • Morning kicks off with brass band parades (and they SLAP) • Fjallkonan (Lady of the Mountain) gives THE speech of the year • Hot dogs. SO. MANY.
