Rating European destinations for solo travel?
**these opinions are based on my own experiences. Everyone experiences places differently and that’s okay!
Albania??: 9/10 - I felt safe the whole time I was there. There’s also a large backpacker community so it’s easy to meet people!
Italy??: 8.5/10 - I felt very safe. I found it a bit more challenging to meet people, but I think that was just the areas I was in and places I stayed.
Ireland??: 8/10 - overall felt very safe, only place I didn’t feel quite as safe was in Dublin. Can be a bit more challenging to meet people, especially if you’re traveling to smaller towns but the locals are usually extremely friendly! Amazing pub scene.
Germany??: 7/10 - there were a few times where I didn’t feel super safe but in the end nothing ever happened. Locals I met were very friendly.
Czech Republic ??: 8.5/10 - overall felt pretty safe (just stay aware in certain areas in Prague after dark like Wenceslas Square). Very easy to meet other travelers. Great nightlife.
The Netherlands??: 9/10 - always felt very safe, just be aware of your surroundings in AMS’s red light district (but I never had an issue). So much to do and such a large backpacker community!
Austria??: 8/10 - always felt super safe here. Lots to do, but can be a bit challenging to get to some places (like castles and hikes) without a car.
Greece??: 6/10 - know I’m gonna get some backlash for this one, but overall I didn’t feel very safe in Greece. The island I visited was better than Athens, but experienced a lot of catcalling and I felt on edge walking at night. The food and history are amazing though, definitely would still recommend visiting!! And I’ve heard good things about a lot of the less touristy islands.
Did you have a different experience in any of these places?? Let’s chat about it!
