?Here's why: 1. Using the metro at night: I had to take the subway around 10:30 p.m. and honestly, it was unsettling. The station was dark, a bit run-down, and there was someone lying on the floor, which instantly put me on edge. It wasn’t completely empty—people started coming in—but standing there alone, waiting, and even exiting later felt uneasy. 2. Eating at a suspicious Asian restaurant: I walked into a tiny place that felt a little too cramped. A few sketchy people came in while I was eating, and the food didn’t help—my vegetables had dark spots and didn’t seem fresh. I left quickly and learned to trust my gut. 3. Registering at my hostel: The building was super old, and to get to the third floor, I had to drag my suitcase up narrow, creaky stairs—alone. No staff in sight, just a quiet hallway and a heavy sense of “Am I in the right place?” 4. Walking in SoHo at night: It was crowded and visually beautiful, but while filming outside the Jacquemus store, I overheard a group of men commenting about me filming alone. Nothing happened, but I definitely felt watched. It reminded me how aware you have to be, even in popular areas. 5. Central Park during the day (a good one!): This one surprised me—in the best way. Joggers, sunshine, people reading and walking. It felt open, safe, and like the New York I had dreamed of. A peaceful break from the chaos. This isn’t to scare anyone—but to show the real, unfiltered side of solo travel. There’s beauty in it, and strength too.
